Sunshine Turkish Women's Group

Dear International Turkish Women:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Sunshine Turkish Women's Group. The Sunshine Turkish Women's Group is a group that offers support, advocacy and assistance to Turkish Australian women, children and their families within Sunshine.

The Sunshine Turkish Women's Group aims and objectives are to assist the development of Turkish Australian women and children within the area of Sunshine to their fullest potential.

The Sunshine Turkish Women's Group does this by organising group activities for its participants that benefit families and children of an Australian Turkish background within a social, cultural and educational context within Turkish and Islamic cultural traditions and norms.

We attach for your consideration, a proposal that we would like to submit to Brimbank City Council for the use of meeting places and kitchen facilities one full day a week for the group activities. Furthermore, we are requesting from Brimbank City Council extra-ordinary organisational funding support to cover costs of food and refreshments for women and children who participate in activities of the group.

We are hopeful that you lend your vocal and written support to this submission by providing representations and your organisation's Letter of Support for this submission. We have requested that Ms Julia Gillard, Federal Member for Lalor, make direct representation to Council.

The group does understand that it is of a suburban nature, as you could appreciate for the well being of the participants in this group we request your support for this submission. Lack of institutional support means that these women and children are further isolated and alienated from society.
